GP Trainers

Holly Hardy is Associate Postgraduate Dean for Bristol and North east Somerset: 'The AD's page'

The training programme for junior doctors means that approved practices host junior doctors for four months in their second Foundation year (F2) and training practices take GP trainees for 6m then 12m in the 3 year vocational training for general practice (ST1, 2 & 3). The MRCGP examination (nMRCGP) has replaced the old summative and MRCGP examinations as the qualification for general practice.

The deanery website has up-to-date information about what is happening.

Trainers Meetings

The Annual Faculty Meeting has replaced the Bristol Trainers AGM and is held in February each year. The aim of the annual meeting are

  • Acknowledge the achievements of the past year (see AD’s report to the Deanery)
  • Get the latest news on what may be happening in GP training
  • Review where we are, (what we are doing well and what we could do differently)
  • Review where we are going, and how we are going to get there
  • Acknowledge and try to overcome any blocks to progress
  • Share what we've been doing on in our separate groupings
  • Encourage collaborative working
  • Try to meet learning needs that are not met elsewhere
  • Have some ST doctors present to broaden the views of the group by including the ‘users of GP education’

The report of the meeting held on 11th Feb 2009 at Engineers House is here and Bill Irish’s report is here.
