GP Groups

There are many different GP support and learning groups that start up and sometimes run for years around Bristol. Typically there are 6-15 members that help meet specific learning needs or non-specific support. These include Higher Professional Education (HPE aka as PCPD), Locum and sessional GP groups, Young Practitioner Groups (YPG), the training, support and book review while you run group (TSBRG), Trainers Workshops , Research Groups and Balint Groups (see below). If you want to start or join one of these groups email me and I will try to facilitate you joining or starting a group.

iMAP Group

Severn Faculty of the RCGP encourages people to take iMAP (the non exam route to membership of the RCGP) - it is only available short term (until 2011) after which it may be necessary for people to do the AKT/CSA/WPBA to become members. In Gloucestershire there is a group of 18 doctors working on iMAP and RCGP wants to encourage groups to form in Bath, Bristol and Somerset if there is enough interest. Severn Faculty has secured a small amount of funding to support groups of doctors working on iMAP - mainly to reimburse time for speakers (e.g iMAP assessors who spend an evening with a group going through the criteria, looking at examples of submissions etc) and venues/refreshment for meetings.

Balint Group

Consultations going nowhere? Challenging patients? Need a new perspective? Established Balint Group for GPs seeks new members. We meet 6 times a term in the evenings to discuss difficult cases. Facilitated by a psychotherapist with GP background. Supportive, useful and enjoyable! Ffi contact Alison Wickert See also: http://www.balint.co.uk/about_us/balint_groups.html
